Gastein Symphony

It has been discussed if the work is indeed by Franz Schubert or not, or how great a percentage may be by Schubert or not. In my search for an answer, I acquired in 2004 the score of this work from a now defunct German publisher Goldoni (they published also a source critical study on the materials’ historical background, “Armer Schubert – Fälschungen und Manipulationen, Marginalen zu Franz Schuberts Sinfonie von 1825” by the famous German historian Werner Maser) took two copies and sent these to two independent Schubert -specialists. Both answered that some 95% is by Schubert, some 2-3% perhaps and some 2-3% could simply not be by Schubert.  Soon after Karl Aage Rasmussen had another Schubert reconstruction on his table.

We offer now a study score made of the score of Rasmussen’s reconstruction. We offer also all the performing materials of the symphony for rent, as well as an arrangement for a chamber ensemble (Clarinet in A, violin, viola, cello and piano) of the symphony’s Scherzo, also by Rasmussen.

Whether or not this work is by Schubert… let the music speak.
